This week we finished a couple projects that we previewed last time.
In the upstairs closet we clear stained a couple shelves and have dramatically improved our storage in a common feature of older houses.
We also tired of the coat rack inside the front door that wasn't practical enough to meet our needs. What do you do when this happens? If you're like us you buy some components from Home Depot...
...clear stain them, add some hooks, and the result is a really handsome new coat rack that looks like a page out of some high-end home design magazine. Here's a close-up:
This is complete with covers for the screws and shows the orientation by the door.
And here's an action photo.

Day Four-twenty
This week we continued to disperse our efforts across a range of projects.
We took a toekick...
threw in some door/drawer pulls...
and presto! We have a new storage cabinet in the basement. It's hard to tell from this vantage, but for long-time readers of this journal we're using the old kitchen tabletop from the breakfast nook as the counter.
Upstairs we got so enthralled with our shelf-making that we decided to add several to this closet. Here are the brackets above and below, made again with extra trim...
and here are the drying shelves...
Because all work has an esthetic element, we've turned our eyes back to the paint colors throughout the house. We picked these colors a tad quickly so many moons ago and regular wear and tear means in high-traffic areas the paint's already in need of refreshment. So in the stairway we turned this bright yellow...
into the same light brown that we used in the rest of the basement.
We repainted the small studio to match the library and will be redoing the bigger studio in this nice, rosy hue.
Finally, we'll leave you with a small mystery. These items go with the meeting area mentioned about a month ago. Can you guess their purpose?
