Day 1282: Good fences...

So we've been wanting to install a privacy fence for some time. Almost as long as we've lived here, probably. Nothing personal with the neighbors, but we just wanted our own space to ourselves. After redoing the whole yard in sod last year it was a matter of time before we'd get a fence to preserve it.

Here's where we planned to install the fence. If the grass on the other side of the property line looks different, that's because it has the same weed-to-grass ratio that ours used to have before the sod.

As regular readers will remember, about two years ago we put in the temporary fence in these pictures. Two years is definitely longer than we expected we'd have it. It covered up the old chain-link fence but not much more.

In theory we could have tackled this job and in another life with unlimited time we might have. As it is, we decided to hire a very reputable company. The owner/designer was very amenable to our interests and in return we agreed with his recommendation to use cedar pickets instead of pressure treated pine. This company installs a lot of cedar so the cost difference was marginal.

And the difference in the result was amazing. The posts are pressure treated pine and there's a world of difference between them and the cedar pickets.

It should be a lot easier to keep things neat along the length of the property line.

We're very happy with this decision and wish we'd done it years ago. It looks great and because it's cedar it smells great!
